Biog: Prior to the MBA, Bishrut’s professional experience was primarily in the oil and gas sector with BP, working as an operations/project engineer across offshore platforms, project offices to onshore terminals and refineries. His last job was with PetroIneos Refining & Trading as an Energy Engineer, where he was responsible for optimising energy usage across the Grangemouth Refinery.
What inspired you to study for an MBA?
Two key reasons: Knowledge and community. I wanted to gain knowledge about business fundamentals and management/leadership best practices. Being able to connect with future leaders and business partners along with learning from my peers was also key. Both of these aims would complement my existing skillset and network.
Why did you apply for the scholarship?
I heard about the scholarship via the London Business School admissions team during one of their informational events for new MBA admits. Before applying for the scholarship, I reached out to some of the previous scholarship holders and I was really impressed both by the breadth of their experiences and their positive attitudes. It was this sense of community that really drove me to apply for the scholarship.
What does the scholarship mean to you?
It’s a game-changer! Apart from the financial aspect, being able to access expert advice from the SMF alumni is something that few people can dream of. The added credibility from having such an august body behind me is also invaluable.
What’s your first impression of the course?
Hectic! Prioritising is essential to a happy MBA and I’m constantly surprised by just how much I’m learning from all of my peers. I chose a two-year programme as I wanted to maximise my learning opportunities and expand my horizons by working in various organisations, something that wouldn’t be possible in a one-year programme.
What’s your ambition after you graduate?
My immediate ambition post-MBA is to be supporting businesses within the energy sector from a strategic and financial advisory role.
