APPLY FOR A £50,000 SCHOLARSHIP FOR AN MBA

Applications are open for the Sainsbury Management Fellows MBA scholarship awards – this year £500,000 worth of scholarships are available to engineers and allied technology and science field graduates.

The Sainsbury Management Fellows scholarship enables successful applicants to add business, finance and marketing expertise to the diverse skills they gained through their engineering/allied technology qualifications.

The Scholarship
Ten £50,000 scholarships will be awarded to ambitious professionals with leadership potential. Upon graduation, the scholarship awardees become Sainsbury Management Fellows (SMFs) and gain access to an impressive group of business leaders who are making a difference to the UK economy and society. Not only will you become part of passionate and supportive group of professionals, you will also benefit from high-level networking events, mentoring and career/entrepreneurship support.

Full Time MBA Courses Only
The SMF scholarship award applies only to full-time MBA courses at the international business schools listed below, and awards are contingent upon applicants obtaining a place at their chosen business school using the school’s normal application procedure. Applications may be made at any time but ideally four months before the intended date of entry to business school.

Who Can Apply
Applications can be made individually or in conjunction with an employer. Where an employer supports an application, it will be helpful if a covering letter confirming this with outline plans for the applicant’s subsequent career development is provided.

  • You must have a first degree in an engineering/allied technology or science discipline, preferably a first or upper second class
  • You must demonstrate a strong commitment to both UK engineering/business/industry and their respective engineering communities
  • You must be an EU/EEA citizen, normally domiciled in the United Kingdom
  • You do not need to have Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent), however, this qualification or progress towards it will be viewed favourably
  • You will have between 4-10 years professional experience post-degree

Selection Procedure
You will be informed if you have been shortlisted for an award within four weeks of submitting your application to the Royal Academy of Engineering, which administers the scholarship scheme on behalf of SMF.

Short-listed candidates who have secured a place at a business school are placed in the candidate pool, ready to be invited to a Selection Panel where the final decision on scholarship awards are made. Invitations to attend a Selection Panel are subject to availability of awards. The award of a Sainsbury Management Fellows scholarship is made at the discretion of the Selection Panel and the decision of the Panel is final.

Rachel Fitzsimmons (CEng IMechE; BA MEng, Cambridge University), INSEAD:

The increased financial security the scholarship has provided will give me peace of mind during my time at INSEAD and allow me greater flexibility in my career choices in the years after I graduate.  Beyond this though, the network and support of the SMF mean a lot to me.  I am proud to be a member and have already enjoyed conversations with other fellows.  I look forward to strengthening these ties in years to come.”
